FREQUENT QUESTIONS

How old does a rider need to be?

Riders need to be 16 or older and hold a valid NZ Class 1 (car) or Class 6 (motorcycle) 'Learners Licence' or higher. The exact rules follow NZ road rules for the moped class, and we walk every family through what applies before the first ride.

What's included?

Moped, fully-comp insurance, NZ-certified helmet, a weatherproof helmet bag, rider training at Handover, regular servicing, roadside assistance and a tyre pump - low tyre pressure plays a big role in riding safety.

Every new hire, we sanitise the helmet and replace the inner pads. At Handover we also cover the basics of riding kit (closed-toe shoes, cover bare skin, gloves recommended etc.) and how to get help if something goes wrong.

What if the bike gets damaged?

Comprehensive insurance is included.

Normal wear-and-tear from careful commuting is on us. Damage from crashes, neglect, or misuse sits with you under the excess. We have a scratch/dents measurement tool that we’ll use at Handover/Handback that we’ll walk you through when you pick the moped up.

We have a thorough Accident Procedure in place, just in case.

How far can it go on one charge?

This will depend on how the rider rides. From full-charge, you should expect to get well over 100kms; plenty for a normal school week of short hops around Kāpiti. Charge overnight at home the same way you’d charge a phone. It costs around $1 to fully charge!

What does it cost?

• 6 months: $85 per week
• 9 months: $80 per week
• 12 months: $75 per week

That covers the moped,  fully-comp insurance, NZ-certified helmet, weatherproof helmet bag, rider training at handover, regular servicing, roadside assistance and a tyre pump.

The only thing it doesn’t include is charging. You charge it at home but it only costs less than a $1 to fully charge.

By hiring with us, your child gets themselves about and you’ll save a lot more on time and cost!

When are they available?

Coming to Kapiti in November.

Email if you want early updates or availability.

Do they need a motorcycle licence?

No. Only a clean, valid NZ Class 1 ('Learners Licence') as a minimum requirement.

Is training included / required?

Yes. We’ll run you through using the moped and Rightway Riding Academy deliver the ‘Scooter Survival’ programme.

Who can ride it?

Only the named rider on the agreement. Sharing with siblings or friends voids cover.

Do you track my teenager?

No, we don't actively track anyone. GPS is fitted on the moped for battery health, theft recovery, and servicing. We don’t watch daily trips. We only check location for theft, crash or critical battery alerts, or late return.

What if it breaks down or the battery dies?

Roadside assistance is included. Call the roadside number we give you at handover and they’ll take care of you.

How / where do we charge it?

At home, overnight. Easy as; just like charging a phone.
